Morton Schmidt and Greg Jenko, once high school classmates, reunite at the police academy. Their contrasting pasts—Schmidt as a nerd and Jenko as a jock—forge an unexpected friendship as they help each other improve their skills.

After graduating from the police academy, Schmidt and Jenko become partners. Instead of thrilling assignments, they are given mundane park patrol duties, finding the reality of police work less exciting than anticipated.

Their fortunes change when they apprehend a group known as the One Percenters, nabbing their leader, Domingo. Unfortunately, a slip-up concerning the Miranda rights results in their case dismissal, leading to another reassignment.

Upon being reassigned, Schmidt and Jenko are introduced to Captain Dickson at the revived 21 Jump Street division. He reveals that their youthful appearances qualify them for undercover work in high schools, marking the beginning of a new adventure.

Assuming the roles of brothers, Schmidt and Jenko move in with Schmidt's parents to blend in with the high school crowd. They quickly find themselves navigating the complexities of teenage life, filled with drama and social intricacies.
