The documentary surveys Chinese cinema’s treatment of gender and sexuality, arguing it is more candid and provocative than in any other national film tradition. Through film clips and interviews with leading directors and scholars, it explores male camaraderie in kung‑fu movies, same‑sex intimacy, women’s grievances in melodramas, and the legacy of Hong Kong star Yam Kim‑Fai, who famously performed male roles on and off screen.
