Even a man who hates children and dogs can fall in love. In 1920s New York, entertainer W. C. Fields loses his girlfriend and his broker's money, so he heads to California. Working in a wax museum he lands a film role and becomes a star. He meets aspiring actress Carlotta Monti at a party, sparking a rocky romance.
