Florence is devastated by the Black Death as fear and disease spread through the city. A group of ten young Florentines seeks refuge from the outbreak, retreating to a shelter where they hope to survive. Rather than the Decameron's storytelling, the film centers on lusty adventures, romance, and swordplay.

Pampinea's wealthy merchant father dies moments before the events begin, leaving her fate precarious. Gerbino De Ratta, a local thug, robs Pampinea of her fortune, claiming her father died in debt. To save her life, Pampinea is forced into an arranged marriage with Gerbino.

Lorenzo is chased by Gerbino after outgunning him at a gambling table. He escapes by taking refuge in a convent, posing as a deaf and mute gardener. There, he begins a risqué encounter with several nuns, until Pampinea arrives and disrupts the scene.

Pampinea arrives at the convent and sees Lorenzo’s indiscretions, fueling jealousy. She blindfolds him and passionately kisses him, confessing her long-held feelings. Moments later she reports the deception to the abbess, revealing Lorenzo’s feigned disability.

Count Dzerzhinsky travels to Florence to fulfill the betrothal to Pampinea. On the road, Gerbino’s men ambush his party, killing his companions but leaving him alive. He continues toward Pampinea's father's mansion, resolute in his mission.

During the journey, the Count meets Elissa, Pampinea's best friend. The two fall in love, and the Count is led to believe Elissa is Pampinea. He presses on toward the wedding with Elissa by his side.

Lorenzo, after following Pampinea to her father's mansion, confesses that he has fallen in love with the nun who kissed him in the convent. The revelation raises the tension as rival loyalties collide. Pampinea's feelings for Lorenzo complicate the coming confrontation.

Gerbino's men arrive at the mansion and imprison Lorenzo. To save him, Pampinea agrees to marry Gerbino that very day, triggering Lorenzo’s banishment to the surrounding woods. The threat of Gerbino’s grasp is temporarily averted, but at a high price.

While in exile, Lorenzo encounters Count Dzerzhinsky, who is en route to marry Pampinea (who is actually Elissa). The two men form a practical alliance to take down Gerbino's men, pooling their wits and resources. Their collaboration reshapes the power balance in Florence.

The alliance leads to a climactic confrontation with Gerbino's gang inside the mansion. Gerbino loses his footing and falls into a deep well, dying amid the chaos. His death clears the way for the final pairings to come together.

Back in the mansion, Pampinea rejects Count Dzerzhinsky's betrothal, choosing her love for Lorenzo. Moments later she discovers that the Count is in love with Elissa, who has been posing as Pampinea. The romantic entanglements reach a fever pitch as truths emerge.

With the deception resolved, Pampinea and Lorenzo finally marry in a ceremony attended by their friends. The union crowns their mutual love after a swirl of danger and betrayal. The ensemble celebrates a hopeful ending amid Florence's precarious peace.
