Anna journeys to the picturesque region of Tuscany to visit her longtime friend, Verena, and her family at their charming rented villa in San Fabiano. Though she was supposed to be accompanied by her boyfriend, Alex, she informs Verena that he had to remain in London for work commitments at the last minute. However, it soon becomes clear that an argument led Alex to decline the trip. The dynamic within the group splits fairly evenly: the adults consist of Verena, her new husband Charlie, and Verena’s cousin George, while the younger generation includes Verena’s children, Jack and Badge, Charlie’s son Archie, and George’s son Oakley.

In an attempt to escape her relationship woes, Anna finds herself drawn to the teenagers, spending quite a bit of time with them, which causes tension with Verena. Embracing their carefree attitude, Anna even makes a pact to keep their secrets, such as their experimentation with marijuana and a reckless joyride in a borrowed car that ends in chaos.

The atmosphere thickens with awkward romantic tension between Anna and Oakley, the most self-assured of the youth. This culminates in an uncomfortable moment when Anna invites him to share a night together, only for him to reject her. As the days progress, Anna distances herself from the group of teens and eventually confesses to Verena about the mishap. This revelation stirs trouble among the youngsters, culminating in a physical confrontation between Oakley and his father. When Anna approaches Oakley to apologize for holding back the truth, he coldly brushes her off, stating he has nothing left to say. Consequently, Anna finds herself caught between two worlds, ultimately feeling alienated from both adults and teenagers. This leads her to leave the group and seek solace in a nearby hotel.

Verena soon comes looking for Anna, and the two share a heartfelt reconciliation. During this poignant moment, Anna opens up about the painful truth of her struggle with infertility and the realization that she will never have children of her own. After their emotional exchange, she returns to the villa where she mends her relationship with the teens, opting to stay a bit longer even after everyone else has departed. The story culminates with Anna seen in a taxi heading to the airport, engaging in a phone conversation with Alex, expressing an optimistic anticipation for their reunion.
