Unmasked Part 25 (1989) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Unmasked Part 25 (1989), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

In London, a night out at a flat party begins with two people stepping side by side toward what looks like a simple evening with friends. The couple, Pete and Ann, are walking to join a lively gathering when a frantic stranger pulls them aside with a chilling warning: do not enter the residence where the party is being held. He speaks of an evil child born inside the home and of a vengeance that has followed him from a distant place. The warning hangs in the air, but the couple chooses to ignore it, brushing it off as superstition, and they push ahead to the door anyway, determined to see their friends and share in the night.

Inside, the flat brings together a small circle: Patti, Mick, Monica, and Shelly welcome them with smiles and light conversation, the kind of casual camaraderie that only happens when a group knows each other well. The moment of calm is short-lived. Outside, Patti’s date, Albert, is suddenly cut down by a masked assailant wielding a hockey goalie mask. The party’s mood shatters as the killer retreats into the night, leaving a sense of dread in his wake.

Back inside, the tension escalates quickly. Pete and Ann descend into an unkempt, shadow-filled room where danger seems to ooze from the walls. The masked killer appears with brutal efficiency, bludgeoning Pete to death with a shovel and fatally garroting Ann in a single, merciless sweep. The party atmosphere shatters as the violence erupts, and the human cost of the night becomes undeniable.

Mick and Monica move upstairs, seeking a moment of intimacy, yet the killer follows and ends their lives with a brutal spear thrust. Patti’s death soon follows in the most impersonal way: a light fixture becomes the instrument of her murder, and the killer then revels in the sight of her lifeless body, dancing with it as he smokes a cigarette—an eerie tableau that reveals his early craving for a theatrical, almost ceremonial style of killing.

The killer eventually encounters Shelly, who is blind and believes Patti has set up the arrangement that led to this moment. Shelly invites him into her world, taking him to her home, where he reveals that he can speak and that his name is Jackson. His face is disfigured, and he laments how society views him as a monster. Shelly and Jackson share a kiss and then become lovers, a fragile bond forming against a backdrop of mounting horror. Jackson opens up about a traumatic past: an alcoholic father who abused him, a mother who moved with him to the United States, and a drowning incident at a camp that he somehow survived.

The story follows Jackson back to the room of his origin, where his drunken father waits and sneers at him. The elder man—himself a murderer—speaks with vitriol, brushing aside any sense of forgiveness Jackson might crave. The encounter leaves Jackson with a renewed resolve to live with his pain rather than let it shape him toward mercy, even as his fear of his own impulses remains a constant undercurrent.

Later, Jackson and Shelly wander into a Halloween mask shop. The sight of the goalie mask triggers a charged moment, and Shelly remarks on how he seems like a character from a film called The Hand of Death. Jackson’s response is a stark, chilling assertion: > don’t you understand? I am that guy from the movies!

With the mask secured, the couple walk the streets, moving from paranoia to a disturbing sense of companionship that only they seem to understand. Their uneasy alliance is tested when Jackson follows Shelly’s friend Christi into a pub. Inside, patrons Nick, Mac, and Barry speculate that Jackson is merely an actor caught in the middle of a production. When Jackson refuses to speak and a patron tries to pull off his mask, he stabs Nick and escapes, the act puncturing the thin line between performance and reality.

Back at home, Jackson retaliates against his father, crushing the man’s head in a brutal act that seals a bitter chapter of his life. The duo’s relationship experiences further strain when an attempted BDSM session turns sour, underscoring the dangerous edge on which their bond now sits.

Elsewhere, Christi, Mac, and Barry move Nick to another house to recover from the earlier stabbing, a moment that underscores the scattered fragility of the people drawn into this night of violence. The tension culminates on Friday the 13th, as Jackson heads toward the house where Nick, Christi, Mac, and Barry are staying. Mac strays off with a woman named Charlotte, the two wandering into a nearby wooded area. Jackson confronts Charlotte, expressing a morbid weariness with the repetitiveness of his murders and warning her not to attempt an escape. True to his pattern of inevitability, she trips and falls, and he kills her with a pitchfork, a cruel reminder that escape is nothing but an illusion.

Nick then steps outside and meets his end at Jackson’s hands, a brutal reminder that no one is spared from the killer’s reach. Jackson storms into the house, killing Barry with an axe and driving a cleaver into Meagan’s face in a savage display of force. Christi is pursued, cornered in a shower, and killed in a final, suffocating moment of terror. The violence has become a ritual, and the body count keeps rising.

Afterward, Jackson seeks out Shelly again, only to confront the difficult reality of what their connection has become. Shelly reveals she is pregnant, a line that adds a layer of tragedy to the night’s horror. He begs for forgiveness, but the moment ends with him slitting her throat, a definitive severing of their fragile bond.

He leaves the scene and walks through the city streets, the weight of everything he has done heavy on his shoulders. As he passes a cinema marquee, the words read The Hand of Death Part 26: Jackson Returns, a grim, almost prophetic sign of his ongoing, self-made legend and the unending cycle of violence that has defined his life.
