Set during World War I, the drama follows Doris Parker, daughter of an American Marine officer, who becomes pen‑pal with Harry Townsend, a lone American soldier fighting in France. Doris falls for Harry despite the advances of Royal Navy Captain Jack Tims. When Harry is wounded, Doris asks Jack to take him aboard a ship bound for France. Jack heroically thwarts a submarine attack, is mortally wounded in the battle, and dies.
