In a stark Gothic monastery, monk Javier catches sight of fellow monk Juan and, in a sudden surge of violence, swings a heavy crucifix at him. The film then unfolds as each monk recounts his own version of a bitter romantic rivalry, revealing conflicting memories and escalating tension between the two.
