Unicron chooses Megatron because his body was conveniently available at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean where he was revived. As the former Decepticon leader, Megatron's powerful frame provides Unicron with a formidable vessel to carry out his plan to destroy Cybertron. The possession allows Unicron to walk among the Transformers while working toward his goal.

Starscream escapes during the battle and flies back to Darkmount, intending to seize leadership of the Decepticons now that Megatron is gone. Starscream's ambition for leadership has been a consistent character trait throughout the film series.

The Well of All Sparks is the sacred birthplace of all Cybertronian life, where countless sparks reside. Unicron targets it to destroy all Cybertronian existence, making it the focal point for the final battle. Optimus's sacrifice at the core releases millions of sparks that emerge from the Well, restoring life to the entire planet.

Bumblebee assumes command after Ultra Magnus is critically wounded and Optimus Prime becomes unreachable during his mission to retrieve the AllSpark. With the senior officers incapacitated or absent, Bumblebee, who has just been knighted as a warrior, must step up to lead the Autobots through the crisis.
