Toolbox Murders

Daisy Rain arrives at her Lusman Arms apartment and is brutally beaten to death by a masked intruder with a hammer. The building’s chilling atmosphere hints at a hidden history as whispers and creaks echo through the walls.

New tenants Nell Barrows and Steven Barrows move in and are greeted by Byron, the wary building manager, along with a handful of residents. The couple's different routines sow a sense of isolation and unease as Steven works long hours and Nell longs for connection.

Nell befriends Julia Cunningham and chats with Chas Rooker, an elderly neighbor who hints at the building’s shadowy past and its missing creator, Jack Lusman. The conversations plant a growing sense of mystery surrounding the mansion’s history.

Days pass and the Lusman Arms seems to come alive with menace as strange noises resound through the apartments and intercoms. Nell discovers a trinket containing human teeth hidden in a wall, confirming that something sinister lurks beneath the routine facade.

Julia and another tenant vanish under suspicious circumstances, heightening fear among residents. Meanwhile, a ski-masked killer continues to stalk the building, hiding bodies and feeding fear through the ruins of this once-stately home.

While investigating, Nell encounters Chas again, who offers cryptic warnings and slips a note reading 'Look for her in Room 504.' Nell soon realizes there is no Room 504, and the floors themselves appear to lack numbers ending in 4.

Nell visits the Los Angeles Preservation Society and learns Jack Lusman was an occultist who mingled science and magic. The building's symbols are part of an ancient spell, and blueprints reveal a hidden townhouse tucked inside the structure.

Back at the Lusman Arms, a roof hatch leads into the hidden townhouse. Nell uncovers a chamber devoted to the Golden Age of Hollywood, torture rooms, and dozens of corpses, exposing the building's brutal secret.

The killer finally reveals himself, stepping into the light and revealing Coffin Baby as the embodiment of the building's evil. Around this moment, a teenage resident reveals Julia's death via webcam footage, tipping Steven off.

A teenage informant leads Steven, Nell, Byron, and the doorman into Coffin Baby's lair. Coffin Baby murders Byron and the doorman and the group fights to survive as Nell theorizes that the creature needs death to sustain itself.

Chas appears to guide them to safety and cryptically explains Coffin Baby's birth. He mentions that Coffin Baby was born when he clawed out of his dead mother’s womb, heightening the stakes as the final confrontation looms.

Steven arrives to help; a fierce struggle ends when a shelf collapses onto Coffin Baby. Police arrive and take Steven to the hospital while Nell returns to her apartment; officers shoot Coffin Baby from the building, and he is hurled out the window, vanishing into the shadows once more.
