An American soldier, concealed by Umbrian farmers, encounters a drunk German soldier—both equally inebriated and convinced the war has ended, sharing an emotional embrace. The illusion shatters as artillery fires, and Uncle Tigna, who sheltered the prisoner and two companions, falls victim to the Nazis.
