Winner of the 1954 Academy Award for Documentary Short film follows pupils at the Royal School for the Deaf in Margate, Kent, as they learn words through exercises, games, lip‑reading and speech. Richard Burton’s narration underscores the children’s cheerfulness and courage. Preserved in 2005 by the Academy Film Archive with the British Film Institute.
