Three on a Limb

Elmer, a boy scout, stops for lunch at a roadside diner and instantly falls for Molly, the waitress. Their brief exchange hints at a romance that will face social obstacles.

Homer arrives at the diner with a ticket, and Molly invites Elmer to drive her home. On the way, Elmer accidentally runs over Homer's motorcycle, creating tension and comic trouble.

Molly's parents introduce themselves to Elmer and instantly disapprove of his appearance and outfit. The meeting establishes the social hurdle the couple must overcome to be together.

Molly's father tests Elmer by asking him to light a fire with two sticks. Elmer struggles and accidentally sets Molly's parents' rug on fire, raising the stakes of the approval process.

As Elmer tries to put out the blaze, a knot in the hose prevents water from flowing. Homer arrives, unties the knot, and is sprayed with water himself, adding to the chaos.

After cleanup, Molly's father orders Homer to propose, but this is a ruse to have a justice of the peace marry Molly to Homer instead. Elmer remains determined to gain Molly's blessing and thwart the plan.

Homer throws Elmer out of the house so the wedding can proceed. Outside, Elmer resolves to find a way to stop the arrangement and win Molly’s hand on equal terms.

Elmer helps a man named Oscar, who is leaving his wife for another woman, and he asks for Oscar's help stopping the wedding. The alliance introduces a new wrinkle to the plan.

Elmer and Oscar head toward the wedding, attempting to derail Molly's marriage to Homer. They arrive at the ceremony as tensions rise and plans threaten to unravel.

At the ceremony, Oscar realizes Molly is the woman he left for another, triggering a three-way scuffle among Elmer, Oscar, and Homer. Each man competes for Molly's hand, chaos ensues.

Oscar's wife arrives and amplifies the confusion, scattering guests and disrupting the wedding plan. The disrupted ceremony creates an opening for the couple to act.
