Thirukumaran, Dhanush, is a carefree and unemployed yet street-smart guy who spends his days hanging out with friends. His father constantly scolds him for not holding a job, and his younger brother looks down on him, while he finds solace with his mother. One day, Thiru crosses paths with Priya in a temple and ends up falling in love with her. Priya is the younger sister of Guru Prakash Raj, a wealthy business tycoon, and Thiru resolves to win her heart through a series of lighthearted and earnest efforts. After several amusing attempts, Priya and Thiru’s bond grows into love, despite the social gap that divides them.

Guru witnesses Priya spending time with Thiru and assaults him, a confrontation that unsettles everyone. Priya, shaken by the episode, contemplates taking her own life, which deeply shocks Guru. He confronts Thiru and makes it clear that Priya is his beloved sister, raised with care, and that Thiru’s current status could never guarantee her comforts. To end the romance, Thiru negotiates with Guru for a hefty sum of money, and Guru reluctantly agrees. Thiru takes the money home but is driven out by his father, who suspects the funds were obtained illegally. undeterred, Thiru uses the money to launch a business and, within a few months, rises to become a wealthy, self-made entrepreneur.

Priya soon discovers Thiru’s dealings with Guru and breaks up with him, leaving Thiru to navigate the consequences of their fractured relationship. As his business empire expands, Thiru outpaces Guru and faces fresh schemes aimed at undermining him, all of which he foils. To break Thiru completely, Guru arranges Priya’s marriage to someone else and even hires goons to threaten him. Thiru fights off the assailants and arrives at the wedding hall just in time, returning the money he had borrowed from Guru. He explains that he used love as collateral for his ambitions—that love was all he had left to trade—and his determination to protect it fueled his drive. Moved by Thiru’s unwavering ethic and resolve, Guru accepts him as Priya’s groom, recognizing that Thiru’s love and business ethics have forged a lasting bond.
