Oklahoma mechanic Pike Peters becomes part‑owner of an oil field. His wife Idy insists the family travel to Paris for culture and to meet “the right kind of people.” In France Pike, his children attract flirtatious admirers, Idy rents a chateau from a poor aristocrat, and Pike answers each surprise with wit, pitting pretension against common sense.
