The Unseen

Bob Langmore discovers a family curse that is slowly turning him invisible. To spare his wife Darlene and daughter Eva from his suffering, he abandons them and retreats into eight years of isolation as a logger, turning to illegal drugs and contemplating suicide as the transformation progresses.

Darlene phones Bob to warn him that Eva is increasingly disobedient and intends to travel with friends instead of attending college. The warning exposes the growing fracture in the family while Bob remains emotionally distant. The call sets in motion the possibility of distractions from his own crisis.

Unable to go through with suicide, Bob quits his job and leaves town. While driving, he experiences a bodily breakdown that ruptures his truck and compounds his sense of despair. The crash marks a turning point that pulls him back toward his old life only to confront his disease again.

Bob contacts his drug dealer Nelson, who relays him to Crisby. Crisby strikes a deal to fix the truck in exchange for Bob delivering a black bear organ and couriering back a package from Milton and Bishop. Bob reluctantly accepts, hoping the run will let him visit Eva and Darlene amid his worsening condition.

Darlene lets Bob stay on her couch, and he has awkward interactions with Eva. Eva asks about her grandfather’s history with mental illness, highlighting the lingering mysteries in the family. The fragile truce maintains a glimmer of connection amidst deterioration.

Bob delivers the organ to Milton and Bishop and receives a package to bring back to Crisby. Crisby begins pressuring him to return, but Bob dismisses the threats and insists he will come back on his own time. The exchange deepens Bob's entanglement with the dangerous network.

On a dare, Eva sneaks into the abandoned Mountainview mental hospital with friends Amelia, Benjy, and Oggy. Amelia is horrified to discover Eva is turning invisible, and the teens are chased by a security guard as an unseen force attacks the guard. The night marks the first direct indication of Eva's condition spilling into danger.

A Chinese doctor captures Eva, prompting Bob and Darlene to scour Mountainview for her. Bob's aggressive behavior leads to his detainment at the facility. Dr. Amherst, who once treated Bob's father, reveals that Bob's father did not kill himself but burned himself to hide his condition, and that his father remains alive but somewhere unknown.

Bob discovers Eva is turning invisible and that her fascination with his father's condition pulled her to the hospital. He tracks her to a Chinese grocery where she is held captive in a back-room cage, and he rescues her from captivity. The moment intensifies their bond as they face the shared fate together.

On the way back home, Bob allows Eva to drive and hands Milton's package to Nelson so it can reach Crisby. Crisby later opens the package and finds only a bag of metal bolts, signaling a deliberate, dangerous misdirection in the illicit supply chain. The betrayal deepens the peril surrounding them.

Eva stays with Bob as he reveals a plan to kill himself at the mill so he can see Eva one last time. Eva protests, but Bob leaves for the mill anyway, driven by despair and a desperate desire to be with his daughter one final time. The scene foreshadows a lethal confrontation yet to come.

Crisby arrives at Bob's house with a shotgun, threatening Eva. Bob, now fully invisible, returns and defeats Crisby, killing him. Bob and Eva discard Crisby's body for a bear to devour, sealing their moral descent into a brutal world.

Eva resolves to go to college, and she and Bob realize the invisible presence that saved Eva in the hospital basement was her grandfather, who is still alive. They set out to return to Morningview to locate Bob's father and face what the future may hold.
