In Sicily, loyalty is split between the official law and the shadowy Mafia. One lone figure, the charismatic outlaw Salvatore Giuliano, refuses to choose either side. He battles the Church, the Mafia and the landed aristocracy, while spearheading a populist drive for Sicilian independence.
