The Presence

A middle-aged Mira Sorvino arrives at a cabin on a secluded forest island. A silent, observing ghost watches her from the shadows, setting a tense atmosphere. She begins to perceive a faint supernatural presence around the place.

The ghost remains unseen to her but becomes curious and starts to observe her routine from the cabin. She senses a quiet, otherworldly presence nearby as days pass.

Her boyfriend arrives unannounced and the couple tours a favorite elevated viewpoint. He proposes to her, and she hesitates, told to keep the ring and think about it. A moment later he nearly slips from the edge, and she pulls him to safety, during which the engagement ring is lost.

That same day, a ghost dressed in black sits close to them and whispers ill words about their relationship. The other ghost notices him and contemplates making a bargain to escape his limited existence.

The whispering ghost sits between the couple and communicates with both in secret, increasing tension. The next day, she confronts him, which angers her and makes her break off the engagement.

With the engagement ring missing and the boat visiting only occasionally, there is little chance to leave. The cell phone is dead, so attempts to call for help fail.

The man decides to look for Mira and discovers a hidden opening under the cabin that leads to a space beneath. He crawls inside to search.

Mira returns to the cabin with the ring and discovers him beneath the house, unconscious and badly injured. She calls for help but is confronted by the otherworldly whispers and the danger it represents.

The Black ghost urges Mira to harm her partner, pushing her toward smashing his head with a rock. She seems ready to comply, but she stops and defies the ghost.

She goes outside and the first ghost screams, revealing that he was never against her. The third presence, portrayed by Deobia Oparei, enters the cabin, hinted at by the flashbacks.

Flashbacks explain that the benevolent ghost helped the couple—saving the man from a fall and later placing the ring for Mira to find.

The benevolent presence intervenes to rescue the other ghost from his limited existence, and both disappear.

Mr. Browman arrives at the cabin, saying he felt something was wrong and trying to reach them. They pull the boyfriend from under the house and load him onto a boat for medical care.

As Mira and the others depart, another silent presence sits beside Mr Browman on the dock, hinting at lingering watchfulness from the island's spirits.
