The film opens with Thelma Post, a 93-year-old widow, trying to navigate the internet with the help of her grandson, Danny. Despite her struggles, Thelma enjoys spending time with Danny, although she feels he is too protective and not taking enough responsibility for his own life.

Thelma receives a phone call from someone claiming to be Danny, saying he is in jail following a car accident. He instructs her to expect another call, setting into motion a troubling series of events in Thelma's life.

Immediately following the call, another unknown number contacts Thelma, demanding that she deliver $10,000 to help get Danny out of jail. She panics, trying to reach out to Danny and her daughter, with no response from either.

In her desperation, Thelma gathers the money and heads to the post office to send it off. Afterward, she finally manages to contact her daughter Gail, who becomes alarmed upon hearing Thelma's predicament and attempts to reach Danny for clarity.

Once Thelma realizes she’s been scammed, her family rallies to support her. They visit the post office together hoping to retrieve the package, but Thelma’s forgotten the address, complicating their efforts.

Determined to resolve her situation, Thelma decides to visit a retirement home where her friend Ben lives. Although she has been avoiding him since her husband’s death, they reconnect over shared experiences.

At the retirement home, Thelma impulsively takes Ben’s scooter in an attempt to escape, which leads to a lighthearted chase with Ben. Their bond strengthens as he promises not to leave her alone in this chaotic situation.

Thelma and Ben stop at their friend Mona's house to retrieve a gun. The operation goes wrong when Thelma accidentally fires it, highlighting her struggles with aging and memory loss amidst the chaos.

Danny and his parents desperately search for Thelma, consulting with retirement home staff to track her down. Discovering that Thelma has posted her location on Instagram gives them a clue to her whereabouts.

At a gas station, Thelma realizes her family is searching for her, and in a moment of panic, she throws away her LifeLine bracelet to evade detection. Her determination to remain independent grows stronger.

Thelma and Ben get into a heated argument about her tendency to push people away. A mishap ensues when a careless driver wrecks Ben's scooter, leading to him deciding to return to the retirement home.

Thelma and Ben arrive at a UPS store to confront the scammers. Thelma confronts Michael and his grandfather Harvey, demanding her money back and taking assertive action to reclaim what was lost.

After a tense standoff, Thelma manages to transfer her money back. In a triumphant moment, she shoots Harvey's computer to ensure he cannot fight back, solidifying her newfound strength.

Once they leave the scammer's location, Danny arrives to pick up Thelma and Ben. They all share a warm embrace, symbolizing the importance of family bonds and support despite life’s challenges.

In a reflective moment, Danny brings Thelma to Teddy's grave to pay respects. Thelma reassures Danny of her belief in his abilities, demonstrating her love and support for him.
