Georg Jacoby’s “Jokeren” is a light romantic comedy set during the Nice carnival. A dying artist entrusts love letters to the crooked lawyer Borwick, who blackmails Lady Cecilie Powder. She turns to her sister Gill and the dashing adventurer “the Joker,” who repeatedly foils Borwick’s plots, culminating in a festive carnival showdown where the Joker triumphs.
