In The Dam, experimental filmmaker Hans-Jürgen Kristl treats his subject with irreverent humor instead of solemn profundity. He lampoons tragedy, himself and the audience while a simple love‑triangle unfolds between an outsider artist, a bourgeois capitalist and a domineering girl. The style nods to Roman Polanski but remains playfully satirical.
