The story is set in a Serbian industrial town dominated by a large steel mill. The mill is the economic heart of the community, shaping everything from daily work rhythms to the town square where public events and tensions unfold.

The film explores three interconnected themes: economic struggle as the steel industry creates instability for workers; love and betrayal through Leo's extramarital affairs that lead to his downfall; and globalization as foreign partners repurpose the mill and its workers as spectacles of socialist nostalgia.

Leo is a steel mill worker who yearns for a carefree, happy life but is constrained by the profit-driven management and his own personal choices. His pursuit of freedom and pleasure through affairs ultimately leads to job loss, divorce, and imprisonment.

Ruža is Leo's wife who becomes fed up with his infidelity and dishonesty. She divorces him and leaves to live with her parents, seeking independence from the marriage's turmoil. Her departure marks a key turning point in Leo's emotional downfall.

The Cadillac represents a hollow victory and absurd rebound. After losing his job, marriage, and freedom, Leo returns with the car as a symbol of superficial success, reflecting the film's darkly comic tone and commentary on materialistic definitions of triumph.

Foreign partners arrive interested in the mill's historic appearance and socialist imagery, deciding to preserve the factory as a spectacle. Leo himself becomes a 'perfect specimen' for collectors, illustrating how global capital can repurpose local labor and cultural identity for entertainment.

The prison-labor system ties the steel mill directly to the town's justice system, with prisoners working at the plant. This underscores the harsh, interwoven social lattice where labor, punishment, and survival intersect in the industrial community.

The film blends comedy and drama with a bittersweet tone. It mixes Leo's bleak personal failures, divorce and imprisonment, with a darkly comic, triumphant ending. The satirical edge prevents the heavy themes of economic collapse and marital discord from feeling purely bleak.

Mišel is the head of security at the steel mill and a former soldier, also described as a photographer. He observes the affair dynamics and contributes to the tense social order within the plant, serving as another element of the volatile environment surrounding Leo.
