Matathias, in Jerusalem, spits on Jesus on road to Calvary and is cursed to wander for the Second Coming. In 1150 Crusades he becomes a nameless knight seeking glory and a soldier’s wife. By 1290 in Palermo, now Matteo Battadios, his son’s death sparks a marital crisis of faith. In 1560 Seville, Dr. Matteo aids the poor, but the Inquisition threatens his life.
