  1. Omar Begins as a New Red Crescent Volunteer

Omar starts working as a volunteer for the Palestinian Red Crescent, new to the job and unfamiliar with emergency response procedures. He requires ongoing training and support from more experienced coworkers. His inexperience will soon be tested in the most harrowing way possible.

    Where
    Palestinian Red Crescent, Gaza
  2. Desperate Emergency Call from Tel al-Hawa

On January 29, 2024, the center receives an emergency call from a girl who is being shot at near the Fares Gas Station in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood of northern Gaza. The region had previously been ordered to be evacuated by the Israeli occupation army. The line cuts off before the caller can identify herself.

  3. Emotional Shock and a Sticker for the Unnamed

Deeply shaken by the interrupted call, Omar is emotionally shell-shocked and struggles to process the situation. His coworker Rana gives him a sticker featuring the icon of a person. It symbolizes the unnamed victims of the Gaza genocide who called into the center.

    Where
    Palestinian Red Crescent office
  4. An Uncle's Call from Germany Reveals the Truth

The uncle of the unidentified girl, who lives in Germany, calls the center with critical information. He reveals that 6-year-old Hind Rajab is still alive, trapped in the same car under fire in Gaza. She is pleading desperately for someone to rescue her.

  5. Rescue Coordination Begins

Omar calculates that an ambulance would take only 8 minutes to reach Hind. He forwards the information to his manager Mahdi, who is in charge of coordinating safe routes for ambulances with the Palestine Red Cross. The task is extremely difficult because the Israeli army has jammed many of the phone lines in Gaza.

    Where
    Gaza
  6. Keeping Hind on the Line While Learning Her Story

To buy time, Omar and Rana ask Hind questions about her family and her life before the war. Hind was travelling with her uncle and his family intending to evacuate the region. She reveals that the shelling has killed all the other occupants of the car, initially describing them simply as 'sleeping.'

  7. Omar's Outburst Over Delayed Protocol

Frustrated by the inability to dispatch an ambulance, Omar storms into Mahdi's office and begins an angry outburst. Mahdi calmly explains that he must follow protocol very closely: waiting for authorization, the approved route, and the 'green light.' He reminds Omar that many humanitarian aid workers who went out without clearance were murdered by Israeli forces.

    Where
    Mahdi's office
  8. A Tank Nearby and an Agonizing Wait

Hind reveals the presence of an armed tank near her family's car as Rana recites the Quran to calm her. The team finally obtains the green light allowing the ambulance to pass. However, the phone repeatedly cuts out, and Rana fears that Hind has been killed.

  9. Tensions Boil Over and a Lifeline from Hind's Mother

Omar draws time units on Mahdi's walls, calls him a coward, and blames his kind of people for Palestine remaining occupied. After the phone connection drops, Rana cries in despair until the German uncle forwards them the phone number of Hind's mother. She reveals she had spoken to Hind just a couple of minutes earlier, offering hope she is still alive.

  10. Night Falls and Social Media Becomes the Megaphone

As night falls, more people leave their offices and Mahdi's options for contacting people to coordinate the rescue steadily diminish. The team resolves to post recordings of the phone calls on social media to draw attention to the girl's plight. They hope global visibility will create pressure to save her.

    When
    Night
  11. Drivers Prepare to Embark

An updated safe route is finally sent to the team. Two ambulance drivers, Yousef Zaino and Ahmad Madhoun, prepare to embark on the rescue mission. The plan is set into motion after hours of agonizing delays.

  12. Hind Talks of the Beach and the Ocean

Nisreen, a more experienced worker, gets Hind to talk about the beach and the ocean, a topic the little girl enjoys immensely amid the terror. The team records videos of the conversations and posts them online. Hind's mother also joins in on some of the calls, comforting her daughter remotely.

  13. Roads Blocked and Desperation Mounts

The ambulance finally begins to move toward Hind, but debris from a recently-destroyed building blocks the road. Meanwhile, Mahdi, out of desperation, locks himself in the bathroom and plays shooter games until the green light is secured. The obstacles seem insurmountable as precious minutes tick away.

  14. 400 Meters Away, Then Gunfire

Three hours after Hind's initial call, drivers Zaino and Madhoun get within 400 meters of Hind's car. Suddenly, there is gunfire and the connection drops completely. The rescue attempt is cut short at the very moment it seemed within reach.

Hind's voice disappears at 7:30 PM, and the fate of Hind, Zaino, and Madhoun remains unknown for 12 days under siege. Only after the Israeli army withdraws is the truth revealed: real-life footage shows the ambulance completely destroyed by Israeli fire, and 355 bullets hit the Hamada family's car. The film closes with cell-phone footage of Hind resting on her bed and playing on the beach before the war.

More Movies Like The Voice of Hind Rajab, by Mood & Story

Curated lists built around what makes The Voice of Hind Rajab tick: the same mood, the same kind of story or the same emotional payoff. Each list explains why these movies belong together.

Real-time rescue dramas like The Voice of Hind Rajab

Films that hold you in real time as hope slips away second by second. Looking for movies like The Voice of Hind Rajab? These tense, real-time dramas unfold minute by minute as ordinary people battle bureaucratic walls and shifting circumstances to save a single life. Heavy, devastating, and built on the unbearable suspense of watching rescuers run out of time.

  • real-time
  • urgent
  • procedural
  • suffocating
  • desperate
  • devastating
  • Tone: tense, bleak
  • Pacing: variable, real-time
Why these movies?

The story pattern: Narratives in this thread compress hours into a tight present tense. The structure is almost always linear, layered with phone calls, briefings, and second-by-second updates. Characters are not protagonists who grow so much as people whose competence is tested by a system that fails to respond. The climax is rarely a triumph; it is the weight of what could not be prevented, often punctuated by closing footage or titles that confirm the loss.

Why they belong together: Films are grouped here because they share the unbearable device of real-time or near-real-time unfolding, a known or implied tragic outcome, and a focus on the procedural grind of trying to save someone against impossible odds. The emotional arc is hope under siege that collapses into grief, often anchored by documentary textures, recorded audio, or real events.

Devastating war dramas about civilians like The Voice of Hind Rajab

Quiet, intimate stories about the human cost of conflict and occupation. Searching for movies like The Voice of Hind Rajab? These devastating war and humanitarian crisis dramas focus on the civilian cost of conflict, occupation, and genocide. Heavy, often based on real events, and unflinching in their portrait of children, families, and aid workers caught in the crossfire.

  • haunting
  • somber
  • humanitarian
  • war-torn
  • grief-stricken
  • oppressive
  • Tone: bleak, devastating
  • Pacing: variable, deliberate
Why these movies?

The story pattern: Stories in this thread tend to follow specific, named individuals — often a child, a medic, a volunteer, a witness — rather than generals or strategists. Structure varies from real-time to fragmented, but the emotional arc usually moves from a small spark of human warmth or routine life into escalating danger. Bureaucracy, silence on the other end of the line, and the absence of help become recurring villains, and endings are almost always bleak, sometimes confirmed by real footage or epilogues.

Why they belong together: They are grouped because they share a thematic obsession with civilian vulnerability, a documentary or real-events texture, and an unflinching refusal to offer catharsis. Films in this thread often build quiet human moments — prayers, ocean talk, play, family rituals — only to have them swallowed by violence and bureaucratic failure. The tone is mournful and haunting throughout.
