The Veil

Twenty-five years after Heaven's Veil's mass suicide, documentary filmmaker Maggie Price and her brother Christian contact Sarah Hope to film what really happened. They promise that there is footage from the suicide that has never been found. They explain that their father was the FBI agent who led the investigation and who later killed himself. Sarah agrees to participate, hoping the truth will surface.

Upon arriving at the site, Maggie, Christian, and Sarah begin filming as Sarah confronts vivid memories and visions of the cult. The camera captures her emotional reactions and nightmares, suggesting the past still haunts the present. The tension signals that the haunting may be more than a story.

After setting up camp for the night, Ed disappears with the group's van. Ann and Nick lead a search to locate him, while the others follow Sarah, who recalls the location of a house in the forest. They trek to the forest house and discover the lost footage and Karen Sweetzer's corpse.

Inside the forest house, they find Karen Sweetzer's corpse and the missing footage. A tape found near her body includes a brief address from Karen to Sarah before dying. The discovery deepens the mystery and begins to reveal Sarah's true connections to the cult.

The group watches the lost reels and learns Jim Jacobs, the quasi-Christian occultist who led Heaven's Veil, describes an ancient method to attain eternal life through alchemy. They discover that Karen is Sarah's mother. The reels also hint at the dangerous drugs Jim used to manipulate the rite.

After viewing the tapes, Ann and Nick return to the site with the bad news that Ed has died in a car accident. The news unsettles the group and heights the sense that the site is dangerous and the truth may come at a terrible cost. The mood grows tenser as more uncanny signs appear.

The tapes depict Jim experimenting with powerful drugs to help him cross over to the spirit realm. In a trance, he possesses a cult member and proclaims that he has freed the first of three bindings from her soul. The idea of bindings and possession casts a pall over the crew and foreshadows their own fates.

Back in the present, Nick leaves to restart the house's generator and is taken by ghostly forces. He reappears and, when the group is alone, kills Ann, demonstrating the haunting's real and deadly reach. The line between the tapes and reality becomes dangerously blurred.

Hearing whispers from the house, Jill and Matt search and find Ed alive but injured. Ed turns on Jill, killing her, before they hurry back into the main group in the house. The violent turn confirms the haunting is not just a story but a deadly force at work.

Sarah holds a seance to reach her mother, Karen. Karen appears and urges the filmmakers to stay. Ann murders Christian, who then rises and joins her, leaving Maggie and Sarah unpossessed. The crew's fates become increasingly bound to the cursed house.

In the final reel, Jim is revealed to be Sarah's father and he forces Karen to take the poison meant to be counteracted by an antidote. Karen opposes poisoning the children and tries to flee with the footage, but she dies. The FBI arrives to interrupt the ceremony, but without the antidote the cult members all die.

Sarah reveals that the ghosts have possessed the documentary crew. Jim, inhabiting Ed, nails Maggie to a tree despite her insistence that her father would not know about an antidote. Police arrive with Matt, only to be killed and possessed as well. Jim proclaims his plan to feed on the souls of the rest of the world.
