In 1936, with war looming on the Manchurian border, 60‑year‑old Shozaburo Oshima worries about his son Ryuji, who has turned away from his gambler father to become a doctor. Ryuji works at a dam‑site clinic, is shocked by the laborers’ abuse, and challenges a murderous boss, only to learn his father's reputation shields him. Torn between duty and ideals, he learns his father was killed by a rival gang, whose leader is his own mother, forced apart by gamblers’ secret code.
