During the Japanese advance through the East Indies in World War II, Dr. Wassell strives to escape Java with surviving crew members of the cruiser Marblehead. Based on true events, he risks his life to rescue a dozen wounded sailors left behind when the able‑bodied men were evacuated to Australia, traveling from the jungles of Java to China and beyond.
