The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue

A prophecy foretells that one of Mrs. Brisby's children will save Thorn Valley. Timmy, the youngest, is singled out as the destined hero. The revelation sets the story's direction and hints at looming destinies for the siblings.

Martin resents being overlooked and vows to prove himself. He decides to strike out on his own to demonstrate his worth. The rivalry between the brothers fuels later actions and decisions.

Jeremy flies Timmy to Thorn Valley where residents warmly welcome him. Justin and Mr. Ages begin mentoring Timmy as he starts his training. He learns to face challenges with courage, improvisation, and quick thinking.

Over the years Timmy hones his ability to adapt and improvise, aiming to become a hero like his father. He sometimes struggles with taking orders, but his resourcefulness keeps him moving forward. The training builds his confidence for dangerous trials ahead.

During a scavenger mission Timmy meets Jenny McBride, whose parents were among the mice that tried to escape NIMH. She explains they survived but are trapped, and that the institute is planning something for the next full moon. Timmy also learns that Martin has been captured, adding urgency to the rescue.

Thorn Valley's council deems any rescue too dangerous. Timmy chooses to defy them and set out to help Jenny. He and Jenny escape Thorn Valley in a makeshift hot air balloon to begin the perilous rescue.

A hawk attacks the trio, forcing a crash in the forest. They meet Cecil, a crafty caterpillar con artist, and discover Jeremy wearing a Great Owl disguise. The deception is exposed, pushing them to continue toward their destination.

Cecil and Jeremy’s scheme is uncovered, and the group escapes with Timmy and Jenny toward NIMH. Their travels reveal the institute’s looming plans and the scale of the danger ahead.

Inside the institute, experiments turn rats and others into obedient minions while human scientists become animalistic. Timmy and Jenny reunite with Justin and the rats who come to help. Timmy leaves his post to search for Martin, and the group is captured by Muriel and Floyd.

They are brought to Doctor Joseph Valentine, who is revealed to be under Martin's control. Martin is the true mastermind behind the operation, and Valentine is brainwashed to carry out cruel experiments. With his intellect, Martin brainwashes Valentine and the lab staff to build an army.

Martin unveils a plan to deploy an army of lab rats riding pigeons to seize Thorn Valley. He tries to recruit Timmy, promising power and hero status. Timmy refuses, but he is detained as Martin tightens his control.

Cecil returns to support Timmy and urges him not to lose hope. Timmy breaks free, traps Muriel and Floyd, and sets out to rescue Jenny. Cecil frees the rats so they can join the fight.

Timmy reaches Jenny, frees her, and launches a daring move to derail Martin's army by making them fly in the wrong direction. Jenny is saved, and the duo pushes forward to end the threat.

A fire erupts as the group fights its way out of the lab. Timmy returns to save Martin, and Jenny proclaims their love for each other. Muriel and Floyd pursue them, but Timmy pushes them into an elevator shaft to their deaths.

Timmy and Martin escape through the lab skylight with help from Jeremy and reach safety. They return to Thorn Valley, where Martin regains his sanity and Timmy is hailed as a hero by Thorn Valley and his family as the prophecy is fulfilled.
