The Rescuers

The story begins in a swampy bayou where a young girl drops a bottle from an abandoned riverboat. This bottle, carried by the waters, eventually washes up on the shores of New York City, where it is discovered by a group of mice.

The bottle is retrieved by members of the International Rescue Aid Society, who gather in a suitcase at the United Nations building. A note inside the bottle reveals a distress message from a girl named Penny, indicating she is in trouble and needs help.

Miss Bianca, a prominent mouse delegate, steps up to assist Penny, with the Chairman approving her choice. To his surprise, she selects Bernard, a janitorial mouse, to accompany her on this urgent mission to rescue Penny.

Bernard and Bianca arrive at the Morning Side Orphanage. They discover a box belonging to Penny that contains some of her personal belongings, which raises concern about her fate as they ponder over her disappearance.

As Bernard and Bianca continue their investigation, they meet Rufus, a friendly cat who offers information about Penny. He explains that Penny had wanted to be adopted but vanished after a 'trashy lady' offered her a ride.

The mice track down Madame Medusa at her pawn shop, where they find evidence linking her to Penny's kidnapping. They overhear Medusa being furious over a missing diamond and her plan to capture Penny again.

After hiding from Medusa, Bernard and Bianca sneak into her suitcase as she heads to the Devil's Bayou. However, they quickly find their luggage spilled on the sidewalk, forcing them to seek an alternative route.

The two mice quickly make their way to a rooftop and manage to catch an adventurous flight to the bayou with an albatross named Orville. The journey proves to be chaotic as they navigate through bursts of fireworks.

Upon arriving at the bayou, they meet Luke and Ellie Mae, two muskrats. While Orville is grounded, Ellie Mae provides them a dragonfly named Evinrude to help them continue their search for Penny.

As they search the bayou, the mice discover that Penny has been captured by Medusa's alligators, Nero and Brutus, and is brought back to the riverboat. The stakes are rising as they try to devise a plan to save her.

In a hidden cavern, Medusa reveals her plot to have Penny retrieve a valuable diamond known as The Devil's Eye. Penny is pushed to find the diamond despite the dangers posed by the cave and Medusa's threats.

The mice manage to reach Penny just as she discovers the diamond inside a skull. However, Medusa refuses to let them leave easily; a chaotic struggle ensues as they all try to escape the rising water in the cavern.

While Medusa attempts to make off with the diamond, a group of swamp animals arrive to assist Penny, Bernard, and Bianca. They confront Medusa, setting off a series of events that lead to Medusa's downfall.

With the help of her new animal friends, Penny escapes with the diamond and her teddy bear. She is finally rescued, and later returns to the orphanage, where she joyfully shares her story.

As Penny is adopted and happily recounts her adventure with Bernard and Bianca, Evinrude arrives with news about another crisis. Bianca once again volunteers herself and Bernard for the upcoming mission, hinting at more adventures to come.
