A young idealistic doctor runs his father’s clinic in a rundown district. During the war he is accidentally cut during an operation and contracts syphilis from a patient’s blood. Tormented by guilt, he self‑treats in secret and, unable to face his conscience, coldly ends his relationship with his heart‑broken fiancée without explanation.
