Meanwhile, the clarinetist Mickey Pizzazz visits Jan at his shop, seeking advice on whether to stick with the band amidst rumors regarding their unconventional acts. Jan, rather than discouraging Mickey, encourages him to embrace a vision of their shared future, emphasizing how their unique fusion of music and business could unite people in joy.

As news spreads concerning the band’s financial success, an elderly couple approaches Jan, eager to invest in his enterprise. Jan confidently assures them of a guaranteed 12% annual return on their investment, showcasing his business savvy. After securing their funds, Mickey expresses his appreciation to Jan for saving him from the monotony of working at Radio Shack.

However, trouble brews unnoticed by Jan and his investors as the state Securities and Exchange Commission has started to monitor their operations. Investigator Ron Edwards pays a visit, unveiling that Jan’s investment strategies are illegal due to improper registration. Given a tight deadline of three days to amend the situation, Jan scrambles to return the investors’ money and dissolve the operation.

Despite his frantic attempts, Jan finds it impossible to meet the deadline, as hundreds of thousands have already been poured into his scheme. When Edwards closes the case, believing everything to be resolved, Jan covertly continues to take investments under a new name for his firm. In Rome, seeking assistance for this extraordinary opportunity, Jan turns to Mickey for help, only for Mickey to discover that Jan has been misleading customers. Rather than feeling betrayed, Mickey finds inspiration in Jan’s unapologetic approach to manifesting dreams out loud. Mickey opens up about his desire to create a stage persona, leading them to co-design his flamboyant new name: “Mickey Pizzazz.”

As the narrative unfolds, Marla pursues personal aspirations by entering another beauty pageant, with Jan’s full support, sparking her journey towards being crowned Mrs. Pennsylvania. Controversy erupts with accusations of misconduct, yet Marla stands her ground, igniting a media storm that drives many investors to withdraw their backing or file SEC complaints. This poses a significant threat to Jan’s Ponzi scheme, but he placates the couple by offering them an enticing 20% return.

Tragedy strikes when a bus accident takes two lives, resulting in Jan’s son being hospitalized in critical condition. Desperate, Jan pleads to God for his son’s recovery, and in a turn of fate, his son begins to recover just as Jan is taken into custody. Convinced this is a sign of divine demand for atonement, Jan cooperates with law enforcement.

Ultimately, Jan receives a five-year prison sentence, losing everything that mattered to him, including his marriage to Marla. Yet, amidst despair, an unexpected bond forms with fellow inmates who immerse him in the world of hip-hop. In return, Jan shares his passion for polka, leaving a lasting impact as his newfound friends gain an appreciation for this often-overlooked genre.

Upon his release from prison, Jan is warmly welcomed back by his son and Mickey, both eager to reignite the polka band that had once brought them immeasurable joy.
