While running his new business, Black meets Lori, a waitress-bartender with a daughter matching the victims' profiles. Their relationship deepens as Lori seeks refuge from her abusive husband.

Lori's daughter unexpectedly mentions meeting 'The Wizard' who has given her chocolate porcupines. This information reignites Black's urgency to find the mysterious man linked to the previous cases.
