Set in 1917, the drama recounts the mutiny at the Etaples training camp in northern France before the Battle of Passchendaele. After the uprising, Percy Toplis, posing as a British officer, flees and begins a romance with young widow Dorothy. Based on William Allison and John Fairley's book, Alan Bleasdale's BBC adaptation depicts the real Toplis—a WWI soldier, rogue and master of disguise who became Britain’s most wanted man—mixing romance, humor and retribution.
