The Man from Laramie

Will Lockhart delivers goods from Laramie toward Coronado and stumbles on the burned remains of a cavalry team. The discovery reveals the violence plaguing the region and foreshadows the trouble he will face. This event pulls him into the town's mounting conflict.

Back in Coronado, Barbara suggests salt from a nearby dry lake as a business opportunity. Dave Waggoman immediately claims the salt is not common property and refuses such an arrangement. He shoots Lockhart's mules and burns his wagons to demonstrate his control of the land.

Vic Hansbro urges Lockhart to leave the area quickly, sensing the danger. Lockhart goes into town anyway and directly confronts Dave, with Vic joining the fray. Alec Waggoman and Sheriff Tom Quigby intervene, offering compensation and urging him to depart.

Kate Canady offers Lockhart a job on her ranch, but he declines. Local drunk Chris Boldt hints he can help, while Barbara pleads with Vic to run away with her, knowing Vic would gain inheritance. The tension around loyalty and money deepens.

Later that night, Boldt attacks Lockhart with a knife. Lockhart defends himself, and Boldt flees. Boldt is later found dead, and Sheriff Quigby arrests Lockhart for the apparent killing.

Alec Waggoman visits Lockhart in his cell and reveals a nightmare about a tall, thin stranger coming to town and killing his son. He asks Lockhart to leave, but Lockhart refuses, setting the stage for a deeper clash.

Kate posts bail for Lockhart on the condition that he agrees to run her ranch. Lockhart also seeks restitution from Alec for the destroyed mules and carts, which Alec values at about $600. Alec then tells Vic he will deduct the payment from his salary and cautions him about his loyalty to Dave.

Lockhart explains that he is hunting the person who sold repeating rifles to the Apache because those weapons were used in the cavalry ambush that killed his brother. The revelation shows his motive is revenge as well as justice, tying his past to the present conflict.

Dave decides to drive Lockhart off his family’s land and begins shooting. Lockhart manages to shoot Dave through the hand, and when Dave's men close in, Dave swipes Lockhart's gun and fires in retaliation before fleeing.

Vic finishes with cattle and pursues Dave, only to discover that Dave and Vic have already sold hundreds of rifles to the Apache. Vic pleads with Dave to abandon the scheme, but Dave refuses, escalating their feud and ending in tragedy when Vic kills Dave during their struggle.

The Sheriff arrives to investigate Dave's death, and Alec accuses Lockhart of murder. After Dave’s funeral, Alec rides out to confront Lockhart but can only shoot blindly, intensifying the town's mistrust.

On a rocky hill, Alec discovers the rifle stash and Vic tries to restrain him, accidentally pushing Alec over the edge. Lockhart soon finds Alec and brings him to Kate's for safety, learning more about the plan to use the rifles. He then locates the cache and destroys the weapons by pushing them off a cliff, but the Apache kill Vic for failing their contract as Lockhart prepares to leave Coronado, signaling his Cavalry past to Barbara.
