The film opens in a dark forest at night, where police officers Morton (Michael Bowen) and Giles (Joshua Cox) are tasked with transporting a notorious criminal, John Krug, to prison. Krug, trying to manipulate the situation, requests a bathroom break, but the officers refuse. As they wait at a railroad crossing, disaster strikes when a truck crashes into their vehicle. The truck’s occupants turn out to be Krug’s younger brother Francis and his girlfriend Sadie (Riki Lindhome). Although Giles suffers serious injuries, he remains alive for a horrifying moment until Sadie coldly executes him. After freeing Krug, he inquires about his son, receiving assurance of the child’s safety. Meanwhile, Morton, still conscious yet grievously hurt, is strangled by Krug, who reflects on Morton’s thoughts about his two young daughters, tragically captured in a photo as Morton breathes his last.

In contrast, we shift to the serene life of 17-year-old Mari Collingwood, who is enjoying a swim under the watchful eye of her mother Emma. After their time at the pool, the Collingwoods embark on a family trip to their summer home nestled deep in the woods, where Mari chooses to stay in the distant guesthouse, hinting at the family’s unresolved grief over the loss of her older brother, Ben.

As they begin to settle in, Mari expresses her desire to visit the nearby town and later meets with her friend, Paige (Martha MacIsaac), at a general store. This seemingly innocent trip takes a dark turn when they encounter Justin, a local teen who quickly gets involved with questionable characters and deals, bringing them into dangerous territory. Meanwhile, Krug and his gang descend upon the motel, seeking revenge and confrontation, which leads to a chilling series of hostage situations where the stakes escalate terrifyingly for the girls.

As events spiral out of control, the tension culminates in a harrowing confrontation between the teenagers and their assailants, resulting in brutal violence and trauma. Struggling for survival, Mari finds herself grappling with unimaginable horrors as she witnesses her friend suffer and is also targeted. In an intense sequence of events, love, betrayal, and resilience clash as Mari ultimately makes a desperate bid for freedom.

The narrative pivots as the Collingwood family is confronted by the very criminals they are unknowingly harboring. Horror unfolds when they realize that the monsters they’ve taken in are responsible for their daughter’s agony. Raw emotions surface, leading John and Emma to devise a plan to escape the vicious gang, culminating in an explosive confrontation that pushes the boundaries of morality and survival.

In a shocking finale, John seeks vengeance against Krug, ensuring that justice is served in a grim, yet cathartic way. The film ends dramatically with a haunting image, showcasing the gruesome fate of Krug, leaving viewers with a chilling sense of retribution and the emotional aftermath of violence.
