The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave

Wild Arms was a member of Bron's herd and felt guilty about the incident that left Bron stranded. When Wild Arms arrived at the Great Valley, he was reluctant to lead a rescue because he knew Bron had become stranded while attempting to save him during a previous rescue mission. His refusal came from shame and fear rather than indifference.

Littlefoot believed time was critical because his father was in danger at Fire Mountain. The Long Valley route was safer but would take much longer, while the earth divide offered a direct path. Littlefoot's urgency to reach his father before it was too late drove him to choose the riskier but faster route.

Earlier in the film, Littlefoot's worry about his father was established when Wild Arms first delivered the news.

Wild Arms was a Nothronychus, a herbivore, while Chomper was a young carnivorous dinosaur (likely a T-Rex type). Despite Chomper being young and friendly, Wild Arms' fear of carnivores overwhelmed him, causing him to freeze and collapse when tasked with leading the group. This fear made him unable to continue, forcing Chomper to take the lead instead.

Littlefoot wanted to take the most direct route to reach Bron as quickly as possible, driven by his urgent need to save his father. Cera likely advocated for a different path that might have been safer or more familiar. The argument reflected their different priorities, Littlefoot's desperation versus Cera's caution, and caused Littlefoot to temporarily continue alone.

Etta was a Pteranodon who had encountered Bron before. She revealed that Bron had been attempting to rescue Wild Arms during his last mission, which is what led to him getting stranded at Fire Mountain. Etta's prior knowledge of Bron and his heroic nature is why she was willing to help guide Littlefoot through the cave.

The elders had suggested the safer Long Valley route, but Littlefoot's insistence on the direct path led to this creative solution.

When Wild Arms became paralyzed by fear of Chomper and collapsed, the group needed a new leader. Chomper, despite being young, was able to take charge by using his senses, specifically his scent and instinct, to guide the others along the trail. His natural abilities proved crucial for finding the way forward.

Etta and the young dinosaurs worked together to pour water onto the flowing lava, which slowed its advance. They also used a sturdy tree to pry Bron free from where he was trapped. This combination of quick thinking and teamwork gave them enough time to attempt the rescue before the lava overcame them.

With lava closing in around them and no other escape route available, Bron scooped up Littlefoot and made a daring leap across the molten lava. This final desperate jump carried them to safety on the other side, where the rest of the herd led by Chomper and Ruby was waiting to greet them.

During the journey, Petrie became separated from the group and stumbled upon a tribe of diggers (small dinosaur burrowers). When the rest of the group found him, they departed with the diggers, who appointed a new leader for themselves. This subplot added an adventure element and showed how the group maintained hope even when members were separated.

After experiencing two close encounters with the fearsome Yutyrannus at night, the adults realized the journey had become deeply personal and dangerous. They brought Chomper and Ruby, two younger but capable members, to serve as guides and protectors, believing their unique skills would help navigate the dangerous territory toward Fire Mountain.
