The Iron Maiden

The Iron Maiden boiled over and exploded after Jack and Kathy crossed the finish line in first place. The engine had been pushed beyond its limits during the race, and the extreme strain caused the pressure to build up uncontrollably, resulting in the dramatic explosion.

Earlier in the story, the safety valve was damaged when Kathy crashed the engine, making it impossible to drive solo until repaired.

With Fisher sidelined due to a back injury, Kathy boldly decided to join Jack as his co-driver. Together, they piloted The Iron Maiden from last place to first through teamwork, trust, and determination, successfully navigating the rally course and crossing the finish line ahead of nearly a hundred other engines.

After the beloved traction engine was destroyed in the explosion, Jack honored it by naming his new supersonic jet aircraft 'The Iron Maiden.' This symbolized the fusion of traditional steam power with modern aviation ambition, representing Jack's passion for both old and new technology.

Fisher arrived at Fred Trotter's house specifically to demand answers about Kathy crashing The Iron Maiden. As a father, he was concerned and upset by her reckless behavior and wanted an explanation from Jack, who he held responsible for the situation.
