Dave Joslin, managing editor of a city newspaper, is demoted to the Miss Lonely Hearts column by publisher J.B. Grennell after refusing to stop publishing stories that link gangster Matthew Keever to a murder. Determined to solve the case, Joslin teams up with Kit Williams, a fellow reporter he loves, and they investigate on their own time.
