The Guest House

Rachel arrives home early after staying out all night with Jason. They argue and Jason drives away, leaving Rachel to face her father's scolding for coming home so late. Her father then informs her that a new employee at his company will be staying in the guest house for a few days. The setup foreshadows Amy's arrival.

Amy is introduced to the house and the guest house. Rachel plays a short instrumental piece on the piano, which Amy praises, sparking a connection. Rachel tells Amy that the guest house used to be her mother's art studio before she died of cancer.

As Amy prepares to take a bath, the two women open up about travel, relationships, and their futures. Rachel shares that Jason broke up with her and that she plans to go to college in New York. Amy confesses she’s unsure what it means to be in love and has never felt comfortable with anyone.

That night, Rachel gets out of bed, goes to the piano, and plays the same song she had performed for Amy but this time with lyrics. Amy enters the room, hears part of the performance, and embraces Rachel.

The next morning, Rachel's father returns home early and is shocked to find her in bed with Amy. It is revealed that her father and Amy slept together as well. Disgusted and heartbroken, Rachel ends their relationship.

A few months later, Rachel performs at a small club in San Francisco. After the show, Amy waits outside and they kiss, admitting how much they've missed each other. They walk along the water near the Golden Gate Bridge, and Amy tells Rachel she loves her; Rachel replies that she loves her too.
