At 14, Joris Ivens, fascinated by cowboy‑and‑Indian tales, wrote and filmed his own story using his father’s camera. The result, Wigwam, starred his family. In it, the hostile Indian Black Eagle kidnaps a farmer’s daughter, but Flaming Arrow—played by Ivens—rescues her, ending with a peace‑pipe. Filmed in spring 1912, it premiered in December 1915.
