The protagonist is tormented by a phantom young woman who nightly attempts to stab him. Each birthday the vision grows more vivid, blurring dream and reality. Seeking a stable job as a groom, he arrives too late, must backtrack and takes refuge in a remote inn, unaware that the hour of his birth approaches. At midnight he awakens in terror. Inspired by Wilkie Collins’s novel “The Dream Woman.”
