It weaves three apocalyptic tales: the end of World I, the devastation of World II, and a speculative future destroyed by nuclear war. The film earned honors at the Venice and Sorrento festivals. Soon after, the Italian‑subtitled copy was locked in a safe as proof of the director’s anti‑communist stance, using genuine Soviet invasion footage.
