Tore inherits a rundown farm and, with youthful vigor, strives to turn it into a prosperous estate like Glomgården across the river, where the beautiful Beri lives. He falls for her, but her father has promised her to the wealthy Gjermund. As the arranged wedding nears, Beri flees to Tore’s home, falls ill, recovers, and gains her father’s permission to marry. Gjermund tries to stop the river‑side ceremony.
