In the sweltering summer of 1978, a dark presence cast its shadow over the peaceful streets of North Denver’s suburbs, where Finley Blake (played by Mason Thames) and his younger sister Gwen (portrayed by Madeleine McGraw) lived under the strained care of their troubled father Terrence (Jeremy Davies). Terrence’s life was deeply affected by the haunting memory of his wife’s tragic death, a loss intertwined with her eerie psychic dreams. Finney, trying to navigate his anxiety-ridden school life, faced relentless torment from his bullies, but found solace in the steadfast friendship of Robin (Brady Ryan), who stood by him bravely.

As Gwen’s psychic abilities came to the fore, she began having unsettling visions of the Grabber’s heinous crimes. This included the abduction of young Bruce, a familiar face from Finney’s Little League team. The local detectives, Wright (E. Roger Mitchell) and Miller (Troy Rudeseal), became increasingly interested in Gwen’s prophetic insights and visited her at school to seek more information about the elusive assailant. Unfortunately, their inquiries infuriated Terrence, who, in a rage-fueled outburst, harmed Gwen instead of helping her.

As the tension escalated, the Grabber struck again, abducting both Robin and eventually Finney. Finney found himself trapped in a dim, soundproof basement, faced with an unnerving black rotary dial telephone that seemed to taunt him with only static at first. However, Bruce’s voice soon broke through, delivering cryptic advice that would compel Finney to plot his escape.

Determined yet aware of his plight, Finney discovered that the Grabber’s house was deeply buried, making his escape attempts feel futile. The Grabber left food and the door ajar, only to emerge unexpectedly with a foreboding smile, marking the beginning of a twisted game that Finney was reluctantly drawn into. A chilling call from Billy, another one of the Grabber’s victims, forewarned him of the impending danger lurking above the stairs.

Meanwhile, Gwen confided in Terrence about her vivid dreams, exacerbating his instability. As the detectives unraveled the case further, they became suspicious of an enigmatic man named Max (James Ransone), who appeared unnaturally fascinated with the Grabber’s actions. Yet, unbeknownst to them, Finney was already ensnared in Max’s basement, facing a horror that would soon be unveiled as the Grabber being none other than Max’s brother.

As Finney’s resolve reached a breaking point, he received a key piece of information from another victim, Griffin, revealing the combination to the front door. With a momentary opportunity presenting itself—a moment when the Grabber seemed fatigued—Finney attempted to flee. But the cunning Grabber quickly reclaimed his captive, fueled by an unsettling alert from Samson. Yet hope sparked from a juvenile delinquent named Vance, who hinted at a secret passage through a wall leading to a nearby freezer.

In a moment of relentless despair, Finney found himself frustrated with yet another locked door. A final supportive call from Robin reignited his spirit, urging him to confront his adversary—to gain control of his destiny and to make a stand with the phone receiver.

Simultaneously, Gwen’s premonition guided the detectives to the Grabber’s home, where they stumbled upon the ghastly evidence of unthinkable acts hidden within the basement. Finney, still ensnared and fighting for his life below, struggled against his wicked circumstances. As the police closed in, the Grabber claimed another victim—Max—with a vicious strike before turning his attention back to Finney to continue his deadly game. Yet, Finney was not ready to succumb; he crafted a trap using remnants of his previous escape attempts to ensnare the Grabber in a pit he dug. With the phone receiver transformed into a weapon, Finney confronted his abductor with vengeance, delivering fatal retribution as the spirits of the Grabber’s past victims cheered on.

Finally breaking away under the disturbance caused by Samson, Finney realized the depths of the house he escaped from lay directly across the street from where the authorities were raiding. In a somber acknowledgment of his previous mistakes, Terrence, now weighed down by regret, sought forgiveness from Finney and Gwen. As days turned into weeks, Finney emerged triumphant, a newfound hero among his peers, fully embracing his identity and confidently suggesting to his crush that she address him as Finn.
