The Adventures of Huck Finn

Huck Finn is a young boy living with his foster family, but one night, his father Pap Finn arrives and takes him away to his father's home. Huck is reluctant but forced to leave his comfortable life behind. His father is depicted as a drunken, neglectful man who resents Huck's independence and wealth.

Fearing his father's violence, Huck fakes his own death and escapes from his father's home. He sets out on a journey down the Mississippi River seeking freedom, accompanied by Jim, a slave who has also escaped from the same region. Huck's act of faking his death allows him to begin his adventure clandestinely.

While traveling along the river, Huck and Jim come across a sinking barge, where Jim notices Huck's father's corpse among the wreckage. They also witness two robbers abandoning a drowning companion in a room as the barge completely sinks. Their canoe sinks, but they steal a raft from the robbers to continue their journey.

Their raft strikes a steamboat, leading to Huck being captured by some men. Huck is taken to the home of the Graingerford family, where he lies about his identity to avoid suspicion. During his stay, he witnesses a feud between the Graingerfords and the Shepherdsons, which culminates in a deadly firefight that kills many male Graingerfords, including Billy.

Huck encounters two con men, the Duke and the King, who join his journey. They arrive at Phelps Landing, where the con men impersonate members of the Wilkes family to swindle three sisters out of their inheritance. Jim is falsely thought to be Huck's slave and is taken into custody, highlighting Huck's protective instincts.

Jim is imprisoned for the supposed murder of Huck, which deeply troubles Huck. Huck decides to help Jim escape, feeling morally conflicted about the societal expectations of slavery. He disguises his actions by hiding stolen money in a coffin and plans to expose the con men to the Wilkes family.

Huck exposes the Duke and the King as frauds to Mary Jane. The local townspeople discover their deception when the real Wilkes family arrives, leading to a mob that tar and feathers the con men. In the chaos, Huck manages to break Jim out of prison, but they are spotted and pursue their escape.

During their attempt to escape from the mob, Huck is shot in the back. Jim, choosing to protect Huck, sacrifices his chance at freedom by carrying Huck away and allowing himself to be captured or hanged. Their bond is evident as Jim prioritizes Huck's safety over his own liberty.

The mob intervenes before Jim is hanged, and the arrival of Jim's owner, Miss Watson, who has died, legally frees Jim. Huck learns of this at the Wilkes homestead, and the story concludes with Huck deciding to run away again, symbolizing his ongoing quest for freedom and adventure.
