Superman: Doomsday

Superman and Lois Lane are romantically involved, but Lois is unhappy because Clark won't reveal his secret identity. She questions their trust and hints at a growing distance between them.

LexCorp workers uncover the spaceship of Doomsday at a dig site. The creature massacres the crew and begins a rampage, spreading fear as it moves toward Metropolis.

Doomsday closes in on Metropolis, slaughtering soldiers and tearing through defenses. Superman arrives to face the seemingly unstoppable monster, bracing for a brutal clash.

Superman and Doomsday engage in a brutal, city-spanning battle. The Man of Steel is badly beaten, and Doomsday is finally killed, but Superman is mortally wounded in the process, dying in Lois Lane's arms.

Superman's death sparks worldwide mourning and a city-wide memorial. Friends cope in various ways: Jimmy takes a job at a tabloid, Perry White sinks into alcoholism, and Lois seeks counsel from Martha Kent.

With order broken, Toyman traps children with a giant mechanical spider and confronts Lois. Lois decides to rescue the hostages, but Toyman threatens to kill her and a young girl.

Lois takes a dangerous risk to save the hostages, and meanwhile a newly reanimated Superman digs out of his grave to intervene. He arrives just in time to thwart Toyman’s plan and rescue Lois and the girl.

The resurrected Superman is revealed to be a clone created by Lex Luthor, who has kept the real Superman's body preserved in a cryogenic tube. The clone is unaware that the real hero still lives in the tomb.

A robot from the Fortress of Solitude detects that Superman is alive, recovers his real body, and begins to restore him to health. The recovery process begins while the clone lurches toward menace.

The clone's attitude darkens when he learns Toyman killed a child; in retaliation, the clone abducts Toyman and kills him in front of the police station. The city is stunned by the act and the clone asserts control over the law-and-order narrative.

The clone's brutality and public acts lead Lois and Martha to conclude this is not the real Superman. They begin to doubt the identity of the resurrected hero and question Lex's intentions.

Lex berates the clone and orders him to locate Superman's corpse, hinting at a larger plan. The clone realizes a lead-shielded kryptonite pellet is in his brain and removes it.

Lois tranquilizes Lex and, with Jimmy, searches his files, discovering that Luthor is cloning an army of Supermen. The clone saves Lois and Jimmy, destroys the cloning facility and the yet-to-be awakened clones.

Superman is revived and confronts the clone, donning a solar suit and wielding a Kryptonite gun. Lois delivers a Kryptonite blast to the clone, the gun is destroyed, and the Kryptonite canister sticks to the clone's chest before Superman vaporizes it with heat vision.

Before dying, the clone tells Superman to protect the people. Lois confirms the real Man of Steel with a kiss, and the crowd rejoices as the true Superman is revealed to be alive. An injured Lex Luthor survives, hinting at continuing schemes to challenge Superman.
