Set in a near-future landscape of 2018, a prisoner named Dante (William Miller) makes a dangerous escape after being arrested for illegally entering Spain. He is relentlessly hunted by a monstrous Rottweiler police dog, a creation that was revived and cybernetically enhanced by the sadistic prison warden Kufard (Paul Naschy) after a fatal injury. Believing his Spanish girlfriend Ula (Irene Montalà) was sent to work as a prostitute in Puerto Angel as punishment, Dante pushes himself through exhaustion and bloodshed as the dog closes in, and he begins to suffer vivid hallucinations that dredge up repressed memories of his and Ula’s arrest.
On the run, Dante stumbles onto a small farm run by Alyah (Paulina Gálvez), who, with a young girl by her side, trains a shotgun on him. She forces him to reveal his identity, and he confirms his name as Dante. Alyah drags him inside, strips away the pretense, and questions why he’s in Kufard’s prison. Dante explains he was on a boat from Rabat with no legal papers, and he swears he isn’t seeking to hurt anyone—he just needs help. Alyah, who speaks frankly about a future that has already been stripped away by circumstance, reveals that if you’re attractive, people can shield you from the work that must be done. She then opens up about her own past: she used to be a prostitute in Puerto Angel, often stoned, and she bears a daughter named Esperanza (Ivana Baquero)—a name chosen to symbolize hope. Esperanza’s presence softens the brutal reality, and she becomes the emotional anchor of Alyah’s world.
Esperanza has already witnessed the danger on the farm: the Rottweiler has killed the dogs, and the girl senses the threat that looms over them. Alyah, wary but willing to help, confines Dante and the girl, but the chilling truth emerges as the dog breaches their defenses. Alyah is killed when she fights to protect Esperanza, the dog raging through the house and downing the shotgun that attempted to stop it. Dante manages to corral the trio into a food-storage cellar, but the relentless dog tracks them down. In a tense sequence, Dante traps the creature in the cellar, only for the dog to escape again, forcing the trio to flee toward a waiting semi trailer.
The chase continues aboard the trailer, with the Rottweiler clinging to the moving platform after a brutal pursuit. A driver who stops to investigate the odd sounds is killed, underscoring the danger of the moment. Realizing that Esperanza’s safety depends on separation from him, Dante seizes the chance to put distance between the girl and the canine menace, and the two of them are rescued by another driver who finds Esperanza, safe but frightened. As Dante reaches Puerto Angel, a painful memory crystallizes: Ula was killed when Kufard released the dog on her, a memory that fuels his resolve.
In a ferocious confrontation, Dante confronts Kufard, and the two clash in a brutal struggle that culminates with Kufard’s demise. The Rottweiler, relentless as ever, closes in, and the two forces meet among the burning wreckage of Kufard’s helicopter. In the end, Dante and the dog fight to the death on the scorched shores, leaving only wreckage and ash behind. The morning light reveals the grim aftermath: fire crews discover the skeletal remains of Dante, Ula, and the Rottweiler on the beach, a stark testament to a pursuit that consumed them all.
