Two would-be car thieves spot a jet-black fourth-generation Chevy Nova and decide to steal it. They climb inside, but the ignition, door handles, and every escape route vanish as the car seals itself around them. Their screams fade as, on the main street, the black car is mysteriously wrecked by a speeding vehicle, leaving the other car to escape while the Nova is abandoned to the impound.

Ray, the garage owner, can’t locate Hector and summons his small crew: Gordy, Al, and Bobby. Tilda, Ray’s secretary, arrives and is sharply rebuked for Bobby’s on-the-job studying, while she asks about a misplaced necklace. They discover the black car in the police impound and notice its strange touch and hiss, hinting at something otherworldly beneath the surface.

Al encounters the car when it seems to awaken inside the garage, as a 1968 Lincoln Continental is pulled toward him by a tentacle-like appendage. He’s unable to free himself as the car drags him inside, and it escapes again into the night. The crew realizes the vehicle is actively hostile and not merely an ordinary car.

The car returns and the hood bursts open to reveal a giant snake-like head, which lurches at Maria. Tilda manages to save Maria at the last moment, while Gordy takes the brunt of the danger. A nearby electrical box is struck, plunging the garage into emergency power loss and heightening the peril.

With lights waning, the group scrambles for Ray’s exit keys, only to find every outside access welded shut to deter intruders. Ray proposes a manhunt to kill the car, but Tilda notices the vehicle still bleeds a strange metallic substance, proving it isn’t truly dead yet. The team decides to trap it rather than give up the fight.

They rig a Burmese tiger trap with spikes hidden in the elevator shaft and a wide tarp to lure the car, turning the garage into a makeshift battleground. The plan is simple but deadly, designed to corral the car into a fatal fall. Tension builds as the crew completes the deadly setup.

Ray and Tilda manage to corral the car into the trap, and a final push sends it plummeting into the pit. A heavy vehicle drops from above, crushing the car and ending the immediate threat. The garage falls quiet, but victory feels hollow given the mounting casualties.

Ray reveals he had the exit keys all along and opens the garage for Tilda to leave. David, her boyfriend, arrives to inspect his destroyed Trans Am, while Ray phones a news station to recount the bizarre events. The immediate danger seems contained, though a cold dread lingers in the air.

A chilling glance reveals five more cars like the one they defeated heading toward the garage, their headlights cutting through the night. Though Tilda seems numb to the carnage, Ray senses he is suddenly surrounded by the looming threat, and his fate remains uncertain as the future crowds in.
