In a moment of sisterly mischief, Sara drags Jessica to a crowded “Club under 21,” hoping to catch a glimpse of the star, only to leave Jessica waiting in the car for hours while she pushes through the throng.

When Jessica finally dares to search for Sara inside the club, she literally collides with Christopher as he tries to slip past the paparazzi at the stage door. He’s just landed a movie role—his first big film—and he must keep his public image pristine to seal the deal. That chance meeting doesn’t go smoothly: Jessica believes Christopher is shallow and performative, even though she enjoys his music. The encounter is awkward, and their chemistry is tangled by skepticism and the glare of the tabloid press.

After a bruising encounter, Christopher takes Jessica to the hospital to check out her injuries, and then to his house to keep him out of the tabloids while the director expects him to stay away from trouble. On a tense ride home, he hides his car in Jessica’s garage and spends the night there, hoping to avoid discovery by fans and family alike. The next morning, Jessica lends him her grandfather’s old fishing hat to use as a disguise when he slips away.

As days pass, the pair are drawn toward each other, even as they struggle to trust what’s real in a world built on prying cameras and staged moments. They share a day wandering around L.A., acting like ordinary teens, a rare respite from the glare of fame. But the illusion shatters when they accidentally wreck Jessica’s grandmother’s car while trying to outrun the paparazzi on a side road, leaving both soaked and frustrated. The pair make their way back to Malibu Beach, holding hands and savoring a moment of real connection. When the paparazzi catch sight of Jessica crying and leaving in the wake of their encounter, the gossip machine erupts. A director pressures Wilde to end the chatter with an official denial that he never met Jessica, pushing the star to distance himself from her entirely. Jessica returns to Michigan to find her home besieged by reporters, and she watches an interview where Wilde denies the meeting. The moment makes her see the other side of fame—the manipulation, the lies, and the price of a “real” life that isn’t easily shared.

The turning point comes when Wilde’s best friend, Stubby, questions him about what happened and reminds him of the honesty he once valued. Wilde, feeling the weight of the lie he’s been living, begins to challenge the control his handlers have over his life. His relationship with his actress-girlfriend Alexis is strained by the scandal, and she ends things to pursue her own career path, clearing a space for Wilde to rethink his choices. He dissolves his parents’ management grip and turns down the movie project that forced him to hide his life from the people who matter.

Back at school, the moment arrives at the dance. A.J., a friend of Wilde’s circle, throws shade at Jessica, but Sara Olson steps up to defend her sister and invites Jessica to the dance. Nervous but hopeful, Jessica attends, moving through whispers and sideways glances until the moment when Wilde appears on stage to apologize in song. The intimate confession is followed by a public gesture: he speaks to the crowd, admits the lies he told, and proclaims his genuine feelings for Jessica. The paparazzi vanish from the spotlight as he invites her to share a real date, and the two sink into a slow dance while Stubby leads a lively number that keeps the mood high.
