Star Wars: The Last Jedi

General Leia's Resistance scrambles to evacuate after the Battle of Starkiller Base. Poe Dameron leads a costly counterattack that destroys a dreadnought, but the fleet cannot stay and must jump to hyperspace. The First Order quickly recovers and continues to hunt them using a new tracking device.

During the assault on the evacuation fleet, Kylo Ren hesitates to fire on the lead ship because he senses Leia is aboard. His wingmen destroy the bridge, killing most of the Resistance leaders. Leia is pulled into space but survives by drawing on the Force.

With Leia recovering, Vice Admiral Holdo assumes command and begins evacuating the fleet despite Poe's objections. Poe leads a mutiny but is stymied when Leia intervenes and Holdo remains to execute the decoy strategy. The Resistance flees in small transports toward a distant base.

Poe sends Finn, Rose, and BB-8 on a risky mission to disable the First Order's tracking beacon. They are directed by Maz Kanata to the casino world of Canto Bight, where they meet the hacker DJ. Pursued by local security, they join forces with the stablehand children to escape.

Finn, Rose, and DJ infiltrate Snoke's flagship with the aim of disabling Snoke's guards but are captured by Captain Phasma. Kylo Ren meanwhile brings Rey to Snoke, who probes their minds to uncover Luke's whereabouts. The plan to locate Luke is laid bare.

On Ahch-To, Rey seeks Luke Skywalker to join the Resistance. After listening to R2-D2's encouragement, Luke agrees to give her three lessons in the Force. The training is punctuated by a deepening Force-link between Rey and Kylo Ren.

During training, Luke confesses that he once considered killing Kylo upon sensing Snoke's manipulation, which led to Kylo destroying Luke's Jedi Order. Rey learns that Kylo could be redeemed, fueling her resolve to bring him back. Luke's reaction is mixed but earnest, as he faces his failures.

Looming over the island, Luke hesitates to burn the sacred library, and Yoda's spirit intervenes by summoning lightning that destroys the library. The master instructs Luke to learn from failure rather than erase it. The moment recalibrates Luke's sense of purpose.

Holdo refuses to surrender and sacrifices by slicing through Snoke's flagship at lightspeed, crippling the First Order fleet. The decoy evacuation succeeds in buying time for the remaining Resistance to escape. The loss of Snoke's flagship complicates the First Order's plans.

Kylo orders Snoke's death and defeats the Praetorian Guard with Rey's aid, shattering Snoke's control. Rey refuses Kylo's offer to rule the galaxy with him and instead claims Luke's lightsaber for herself. They fight, and Rey bisects the weapon, symbolizing a new balance.

Rey and Kylo's confrontation leaves Finn and Rose free from Phasma's trap thanks to BB-8's efforts. Finn and Rose, aided by DJ, fight to survive Phasma's ambush and eventually join the remaining Resistance on the way to Crait. The trio helps turn the tide at a critical moment.

Poe, Finn, and Rose stage a desperate attack with obsolete speeders as the First Order closes in. Rey and Chewbacca lure TIE fighters away in the Millennium Falcon, while Rose stops Finn from sacrificing himself. The First Order breaches the fortress with a siege cannon, forcing a dangerous retreat.

Luke appears on the battlefield and confronts the First Order, giving the surviving Resistance a chance to escape aboard the Millennium Falcon. The enemy's weapons cannot harm him as he projects a full-body image through the Force. His presence buys precious moments for the others to flee.

Exhausted, Luke dies peacefully on Ahch-To, becoming one with the Force. Rey and Leia sense his death and vow that the Resistance will rise again. The galaxy mourns a legend who returns as a spiritual presence.

Back on Canto Bight, stablehands recount the tale of Luke Skywalker. One of them demonstrates the Force by moving a broom, gazing into space as a symbol of hope for the future. The story hints at Luke's impact beyond the immediate battles.
